Immigrants' rights groups seek help from Sacramento

    Amy Isackson

KPBS SAN DIEGO (2006-05-09) A coalition of immigrants' rights groups delivered 10,000 letters to California Senators Diane Feinstein and Barbara Boxer Tuesday. The letters call on the lawmakers to support comprehensive immigration reform. KPBS Reporter Amy Isackson has details.

San Diego County residents signed the letters during the May first boycott. They ask Congress to create a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants to create realistic legal avenues for new migrants to come and work safely in the United States and to abandon "enforcement only" border policy.

Ben Monterroso is Executive Director of the Service Employees International Union in San Diego County. He says increasing Latino's political participation is one of the goals of the May first boycott. And delivering the letters makes good on that.

Monterroso: "It's one step closer to saying that we implemented the plan that we going to implement. We are encouraging our community to participate in the civic life of this country. And part of the participation is writing letters, making phone calls, register to vote."

Neither Senator Boxer nor Senator Feinstein's office had any comment on the letters. Amy Isackson, KPBS news.

    Voter fraud, voter fraud!

Someone needs to inform this numskull that only LEGAL citizens are eligible to register to vote!

Of course, he probably knows that but with illegals what can you expect but more illegal activity!

If we can't control 11 million illegals to send them home, then how can we stop them from voting? They plunder our country daily and they have plenty of assistance. If it means making them all 'instant citizens' just to get the votes, that'll do just fine. Bend the rules or break them or just make up some new ones to suit the need. Or there could be the 'nearly a citizen', 'pre-citizen', 'election day citizen' or 'guest citizen' vote. The challenge will be who is going to GET those votes? The games have already begun! We won't forget that the ones in office have already played their hand and it's time to fold.
We are NOT a nation of immigrants!

I hear the next thing on the agenda is "Take an Illegal Out to Lunch" day.

    :P

It just gets more ridiculous all the time. (I made the above up but as stupid as the slogan "no human being is illegal" is that lunch day could happen!) It's just a matter of time as the wacky gets wackier.

    Burritos, anyone? :P

You people have no rights. You are not legal, and just because you infiltrate a country, because its the most convienient place to demand amnesty, does not mean you are entiled to be legal citizens with all the benefits enjoyed by American Citizens.

There was no need to deliver 10,000 letters. With Boxer and Feinstein, one would have been more than enough.
