LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say a convicted sex offender from Nevada has been arrested in southern New Mexico near the border for having fraudulent immigration documents.

The Las Cruces Sun-News reported (http://bit.ly/1B3uC69) Friday that Alfredo C. Labrada-Gomez, a Cuban national, was caught by Las Cruces-area Border Patrol agents conducting a routine immigration bus check.

According to a Border Patrol news release, agents checking passengers Thursday saw Labrada-Gomez had a permanent resident card that was missing some embedded security features.

Agents discovered Labrada-Gomez was arrested several times and convicted of child sex abuse in Nevada.

Court records show he also had convictions for batter and felony firearm possession.

Labrada-Gomez is being held in the Otero County Prison Facility and will be prosecuted for immigration-related offenses.
