National Guard demonstrates border efforts


LAS CRUCES, N.M. A New Mexico National Guard task force that helps track illegal immigrants and drug smugglers along the border was called upon six times last weekend.

National Guard records show that Task Force Guardian was sent last Saturday to Border Patrol checkpoints west of Las Cruces and west of Alamogordo.

The Guard showed off the task force yesterday as Democratic U-S Senator Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico got a briefing on border operations.
