NEWSFLASH: Border Security is Still More Important than Mass Amnesty for Americans

NEWSFLASH: Border Security is Still More Important than Mass Amnesty for Americans

Basic concepts such as national integrity remain key issues for voters.

According to a Rasmussen Reports survey of 1,000 likely US voters, roughly 62% responded that “gaining control of the border” is more important than giving amnesty to millions of illegal aliens.

This comes at a time when the US is facing a veritable crisis at its Southern border, with hundreds of thousands of migrants piling up at the border and putting major stress on detention centers. Only 31% believe that granting amnesty was more important than maintaining border control. In this case, amnesty refers to granting legal status “to the roughly 11 to 22 million illegal aliens living in the U.S.”, according to John Binder of Breitbart News.

The concept of amnesty does not sit well with Republicans and conservatives per the survey’s findings. Approximately 82% of Republicans and 86% of conservatives indicated that border control is more important than amnesty. 62% of swing voters signaled similar policy priorities towards border control, while 26% saw amnesty as more important.

Binder observed that border control is particularly popular among America’s most humble economic sectors, who have to compete with low-wage workers:

The issue resonates significantly with America’s working poor, working class, and lower-middle class who are the most likely to compete for U.S. jobs against illegal aliens and foreign visa workers.

For example, nearly 70 percent of Americans without a high school diploma said border control is more important than amnesty while 68 percent of those who did not finish college said the same. Similarly, 61 percent of those with only a high school diploma said border control is more important than amnesty.

House Democrats were able to recently pass two amnesty bills with the help of a few sell-out Republicans. Many Democrats understand the electoral implications of mass migration, thus they always push for it whenever at every opportunity. A passage of amnesty legislation would put America on the path to a one-party state and fundamentally transform its governing institutions.

Republicans would be wise to not run away from the immigration issue, and instead offer sensible reforms such as an immigration moratorium; for all the obvious reasons to get illegal immigration and border security under control, while also preventing Democrats from attaining electoral hegemony via imported voters.
