    145,095 criminal aliens deported, 2017-2018

    OPINION: WASHINGTON SECRETS

145,095 criminal illegal immigrants deported, 1.2% of 11.3 million total in US

The Trump administration seized and deported some 145,095 criminal illegal immigrants inside the United States in 2017-2018, about 1.2% of the overall population of 11.3 million illegal immigrants, according to new federal statistics.

Some 77,858 were arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials under the Secure Communities program and deported in fiscal 2018, nearly a third in Texas.

Another 67,237 were arrested in communities and their homes in 2017 through May 2018.

In California, home to 3,059,000 illegal immigrants, 22,657 were deported, said the new report.

The stunning numbers are in a new report from the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University. The university said it obtained the ICE figures under the Freedom of Information Act.

They also show the effectiveness that sanctuary laws have in protecting criminal illegal immigrants from ICE officials.

But they also show where the masses of illegal immigrants are and how safe from arrest they are in key states, like California and New Jersey, and cities, like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago. The numbers generally parallel overall ICE arrest and deportation statistics.

The report reviews numbers from two key programs: ICE’s detainer system of seizing illegal immigrants at jails and the agency’s search inside communities.

    From the report:

    • “The Secure Communities (SC) program resulted in 77,858 deportations during FY 2018. Compared with the estimated total number of unauthorized individuals residing in this country, this means 6.9 SC removals for every 1,000 individuals. Stated another way, this represents a 0.69 percent deportation rate.”

    • “The study also examined the locations where stepped-up community arrests took place. For these comparisons, TRAC used FY 2017 figures plus data through May 2018—again the latest available count. During this 20-month period, case-by-case records on ICE interior arrests showed a total of 67,237 community arrests. Compared with the over 11 million unauthorized individuals, 6.0 community arrests occurred for every 1,000 unauthorized people, or 0.60 percent.”

As you, I too want to get rid of them. However, those behind bars are there for a reason. They have committed a crime here in the United States and many of their crimes have been against U.S. citizens. Justice demands that they pay for their crime through punishment. Deportation is not a punishment. They need to do their time and then get deported. Well, that's how I see it anyway.

Francisco has been in the U.S. illegally since at least 2002 despite his criminal record, which includes an arrest for drunk driving in 2017, a reckless driving charge in 2004, and a theft charge in 2002, federal immigration officials confirmed to WVLT.

I'm talking about the ones currently in prison. They need to serve their time and then get the boot on release day.
