If there’s one thing we’ve learned from the many Republican presidential debates this year, it’s that frontrunners should do their best not to tell the GOP base how it should feel about illegal immigrants.

Yet that’s exactly what Newt Gingrich did during Tuesday’s foreign policy-themed debate on CNN.

During a discussion of illegal immigration led by moderator Wolf Blitzer, Gingrich — who Blitzer pointed out voted in favor of so-called “amnestyâ€

Go Newt's route and suddenly most of the illegals will be able to prove somehow someway that they've been here for decades. They already are masters at gaming the system with obtaining phony ids and the like.

How about if the Republicans finally become the 'party of law' as in enforcing the laws?

They couldn't vet the 3M properly after the 86 IRCA so when 20 to 30M come forward...

Goodbye Newt,, I don't want anything to do with you. Go for the illegal vote and lose half the Republican base. Very stupid. (see Rick Perry) One acorn of amnesty will grow a tree and you know it. Every illegal alien will show up with phony documents in hand proving they have been here for however many years they need to get in on your silly "compassion". Stupid is as stupid does.
