NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A bill similar to the controversial Arizona immigration law is on hold in Tennessee.

The bill, called the Lawful Immigration Enforcement Act, was "placed behind the budget," which means lawmakers will have to come up with the money to pay for it.

The bill would allow law enforcement to check someone's immigration status when stopped or detained. However, it doesn't reach as far as Arizona or Alabama's law.
