[quote]“The construction worker is the second-least desired job of any industry. The only job that is ranked below construction is migrant farm hand. We depend on legal immigrants to build the projects we build ... Just because they can’t speak English or do not speak it very well does not mean they are illegal. Hitler was left handed, but that really doesn’t mean all left-handed people want to rule the world, at least not to me it doesn’t.â€

All of the workers on the job site are legally documented, McCarroll Construction President David Price said in an e-mail response.
But are their documents legal? This is why E-Verify is so important, especially on the eve of this massive stimulus bill that is supposedly going to create jobs in sectors such as construction and other public works projects.

    miguelina,
You're preaching to the choir on this one as I was thinking the same exact thing.

The current phrase is that "They're just doing the jobs that Americans won't do." Perhaps they should change it to "They're just stealing jobs from Americans and reducing the pay of those who are."?

Legal, H1-B "immigrants" have been doing it to me for years...

    Also, I have a question about E-Verify:
If someone else tries to use my exact name and soc. num., I'm assuming that it would show up as valid. Is this true?

    Thanks.

Hmmmm.....since I live in this neck of the woods, I might just take a peek for myself. Maybe I should yell "ICE RAID" to see if anyone scrambles!!! Do any of you know how to say 'raid' in Spanish?

I think Asheville and every other city and county should ask why they allow immigrants, legal or illegal, to work on public works projects. This is American Taxpayer Money being used to build these schools and other public facilities and only American Workers should be allowed to build them.

This song and dance about construction being undesirable work is a bald-faced lie. Americans love working construction. Just ask the 100,000 unemployed sheet-metal workers in Florida who didn't even get the chance to work on the new St. Regis Hotel project in Miami.

It's a total disgrace what our public officials have done to our country. They should all be rounded up, bound and gagged, thrown in a wagon, hauled to DC, tied to stakes on the Washington Mall and fed to the sea gulls.

I swear, my chin hit the floor when I read that construction was an undesirable job! I have heard a lot of claptrap regarding illegals doing the jobs we supposedly won't do, but this just about takes the cake!!

The construction industry is definitely complicit in this mess. Contractors should be held accountable for every subcontractor they hire in regards to their employees having legit. documentation. Most all of these illegals have social security numbers that are fraudulent.
