Prosecutor: Man Who Killed 8-Month-Old Girl Wanted

Christine Sloan TOTOWA, N.J. (CBS) ― In New Jersey an illegal immigrant is on the run from the law, accused in the murder of his girlfriend's child.

Prosecutors say the man murdered his girlfriend's 8-month-old baby inside their second-floor apartment in Clifton. His name is Jose Flores-Rivera. He was in the U.S. illegally and is now a fugitive from the law.

"At the hospital, Mr. Flores told the mother he was going outside to make a phone call at which point he exited the hospital and he has gone on the run," Passaic County prosecutor James Avigliano said.

Surveillance cameras at Saint Joseph's Hospital captured images of the 22-year-old, who is from Mexico. The medical examiner determined that little Jocelyn AImonte died of blunt force trauma to her body. Her mother made a frantic call to 9-1-1 Saturday morning, but investigators said they believe Flores-Rivera struck baby Jocelyn Friday night when her mother was in the shower.

"That's when she came out of the shower … The baby had been placed in a stroller. She thought the baby was sleeping," Avigliano said.

Neighbors said they're shocked to hear Flores-Rivera has been charged with murder.

"I used to see them. They was very normal and I never heard anything upstairs, like violence I never see that," Sugey Salvador said.

Flores-Rivera also goes by the nickname of "Chapulin." If you have any information on his whereabouts you're urged to call the Clifton Police Department or the Passaic County prosecutor's office.

The baby's mother has not been charged.

Suspect in murder of 8-month-old caught in NY

(09/30/0 CLIFTON - A manhunt for a suspect in the murder of an 8-month-old Clifton child ended in upstate New York Tuesday.
Prosecutors are in the process of extraditing Jose Flores Rivera from New York to Passaic County.


The prosecutor’s office, Clifton police and U.S. Marshals had all been looking for Rivera, a 22-year-old undocumented Mexican man who was living with the baby’ s mother for the last six months.


Officials say the 8-month-year-old was beaten to death and placed in a stroller overnight. Apparently, the mother thought the child was asleep, but woke up to find that her baby was not breathing. The child was then rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead.
