BRIDGETON — An illegal immigrant has pleaded guilty to murder in connection with the 2007 beating death of his girlfriend’s 3-month-old daughter.
Randi Rivas Lopez, 22, of Guatemala, entered the guilty plea Monday and faces 30 years in prison.
Vineland police were called to a 4th Street home on April 24, 2007, in response to a 911 call reporting Lopez and the infant, Kimberly Matias Lopez, missing.
The child’s mother had left her in the defendant’s care that morning and found them missing when she returned home from work that night.
The infant’s body was found in a garbage bag behind a washer and dryer in the basement later that evening.
Lopez was arrested the next day at a bus terminal in Camden.
He entered a guilty plea to one count of murder. The plea requires a 30-year prison sentence with no parole eligibility. He is also subject to an immigration detainer.
Sentencing is scheduled for May 2 before Superior Court Judge Benjamin C. Telsey.
