Man Charged With Kidnapping, More

Santa Fe Sheriff’s deputies, after a short foot chase on Tuesday, caught a man who they claim accused a woman of cheating on him and held her at gunpoint in November.

Henry Chavarria, 30, is being held in the Santa Fe County Jail on charges ranging from kidnapping, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a household member, cocaine trafficking, resisting or obstructing an officer and more, according to police reports. He’s also being held on an immigration detainer through federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to the jail database.

Chavarria was at the Sandia Casino with the woman, according to earlier reports. Deputies allege he left for a residence where he began drinking and using cocaine. He became upset, accused the woman of infidelity and began punching her. He then grabbed a rifle and, pointing it at the woman, said he was going to kill her.

Chavarria would not let her leave the home, but at some point he became distracted and she fled, according to police.

Sheriff’s department Lt. William Pacheco said an agent had a description of Chavarria’s vehicle, which was spotted on Airport Road. Chavarria recognized the agent and pulled into a parking lot, where he got out of the car and fled on foot. He was caught a short time later.
