LORDSBURG, N.M – A member of a prison gang with an extensive criminal history was arrested Thursday.

Border Patrol agents from Lordsburg, New Mexico, arrested Martin Romero-Camilo, 43, after a local rancher alerted agents about a possible illegal alien trespassing on private property.

Lordsburg agents stationed at a forward operating base began a search of the area and located Romero-Camilo who they say entered the United States illegally from Mexico.

After a brief interview, agents discovered that Romero-Carrillo had a history of illegal crossings and joined the “Paisa” gang when he lived in Michoacan, Mexico.

Officials said Romero-Camilo’s criminal history included assault with a deadly weapon and robbery in California. He was previously deported in 2001 after serving an 8 year prison sentence.

Romero-Camilo’s order of removal was reinstated, and he was charged with re-entry of an aggravated felon, officials said.
