I really liked your comment until I remembered that I came here from another state.

I am not talking about everyone that has come from other states. I am talking about people with extreme liberal ideas that did not fit in with their states. They moved here and used our open and welcoming attitude against us to change the whole dynamics of this once great state. If you get away from the coast you will find the true native Californians. I am 69 today and have watched the change.

S.F. man convicted of hate crimes in anti-Chinese graffiti case

John Schenone, 62, of San Francisco was arrested on vandalism and hate-crime charges stemming from a rash of anti-Chinese graffiti in San Francisco's Portola and Bayview neighborhoods.

A San Francisco man was found guilty Thursday of spray-painting anti-Chinese graffiti around the southeast region of the city.

A jury convicted John Schenone, 62, of seven misdemeanor counts of vandalism and six misdemeanor counts of a hate crime by way of defacing property in connection to the graffiti discovered in September.

“Racism has no place in San Francisco,” said District Attorney George Gascón. “We pride ourselves on being a diverse, tolerant and inclusive city. Actions such as these strike at the heart of who we are and the values we hold dear.”

The orange graffiti, reading “no more Chinese” was discovered on Sept. 7 on six locations around the Portola and Bayview neighborhoods. According to public records, Schenone lived less than a mile from the majority of the graffiti locations.

Authorities said Schenone targeted mostly abandoned locations, including a house under construction, another being sold on the 100 block of Brussels Street and a fence at a vacant lot at University and Bacon streets.

Investigators connected the graffiti to Schenone through surveillance video that captured the same distinctive 1980s model white pickup truck at two of the locations.

After executing a search warrant, investigators found the truck at Schenone’s home and the same paint that was used at all the graffiti locations.

The vandalism drew outrage from community members, who rallied together to condemn what they described as “anti-Chinese hate speech.”Assistant District Attorney Myles Campbell credited the community’s response for the quick arrest and conviction.

Deputy Public Defender Bonnie Chan, Schenone’s attorney, said she planned to appeal the verdict and file a motion for a new trial.

“We all have a Constitutional right to express our opinions, however unpopular they may be with the public,” she said. “Mr. Schenone did not threaten, target, or physically harm a single person. Like it or not, racism alone is not a crime. From the beginning, this case has been based on emotions rather than law. That’s why a judge reduced the charges from felonies to misdemeanors.”

Simply graffiti - too bad they don't arrest all graffiti writers because they tag non stop in the cities. It degrades property values. Give them a sketchbook to scribble their nonsense.

Racist? Perhaps it's all about food? In any case it would be more effective if written in Chinese instead of English.
