No Spanish rule in class upsets mother
No Spanish rule in class upsets mother
Posted: Fri 5:14 PM, Dec 02, 2016
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) A Wichita mother is upset because her son can no longer speak Spanish at school.
Geomara Garcia said her son's teacher at Mead Middle School told him to stop speaking Spanish in her classroom.
When Garcia called the teacher, she said the no-Spanish rule started at the beginning of last month because it was becoming a disruption.
The School District said the rule started as the result of an issue where Spanish-speaking students were saying inappropriate comments in Spanish.
But Garcia said her son feels bullied by the rule.
"I understand that she doesn't know what they are saying, but I feel like that's going to be her defense," Garcia said. "That's going to be her or any other teacher's defense. What's going to be my son's defense? That's his language. He can't throw it away."
The Kansas Association of School Boards said the rule is not breaking any laws.
The Kansas Board of Education said there are no state regulations prohibiting this kind of rule, but the teacher should work with administration and parents before taking any action.

Oh I totally agree partwerks!! Absolutely. It should be law regulated by the US Department of Labor and OSHA. The mistakes and errors that occur from misunderstandings on the job between people who don't speak the same language is mind-boggling. They can't read the rules or instructions, even if someone spends the time and money translating everything, something is always lost in translation, especially important details.
