No tuition break for outlaws

N.C. legislators should not allow illegal aliens to pay in-state tuition


Ronald King of Carolinians for Immigration Reform, responding to the April 17 editorial, "Practical and right":

The majority of N.C. citizens reject the notion of paid tuition benefits for illegal aliens or the children of illegal aliens. Taxpayer-funded in-state tuition benefits should be preserved for legal residents.

It is a disservice to college-bound legal residents to allow illegal aliens, who have no right to work in this country after graduation, to take the limited seats at state universities. It is also unfair to out-of-state residents who face higher tuition rates. This is a complete disservice to legal immigrants who play by the rules.

Illegal aliens violate U.S. laws and borders. Just because they're here is no reason to appease and reward their law-breaking and encourage more of it. Be mindful that illegal alien children are now causing overcrowding and illegally damaging the quality of education in our public schools. Proper legislation to address an illegal problem does not reward those who are here but cuts off the illegal problem, with no exceptions.

When a violation of laws reaches an epidemic or absurd level, then action must be taken to diminish this illegal activity. For example, when children in a school have reached an epidemic level of bringing drugs into a school, the solution is to stop it, not legalize it.

These illegal aliens are a detriment to the order of communities, causing such social ills as overcrowded schools, higher health care costs, multiple crimes and MS-13 gang violence, educational dysfunction and counterfeiting. Clearly creating an avenue that encourages further violations is wholesale nonsense. Upholding laws and not advancing more illegal activity supersedes the problems of singled-out cases that, however moving they may appear, result from law-breaking in the first place.

Future budget/tax problems will be made worse by these intruders. In-state tuition for illegal aliens robs many needy legitimate citizens and legal-immigrant students of the limited college seats they rightfully seek in American education facilities.

Illegal aliens still need to learn their first school lesson -- what the word "illegal" means. In-state tuition for illegal aliens is unwise, bad legislation.

I'm so bleary-eyed I'll have to read it tommorrow. :P

If this gets squashed in NC, other states will take notice and so will a multitude of citizens. It will give a much needed positive boost to all who are fighting this in other areas of the country.

It MUST GET SQUASHED! My sense is that Congress is watching very intently this situation and will either question what the American people are really capable of.........elections anyone? But if it passes the Congress will become more empowered to ignore the American people.

We are close to killing this bill. If we do this week we will have our ALIPAC Activists export how we did it to others in the other states.
