Marco Rubio, John Boehner meet on immigration

Not much is truly known about where House Speaker John Boehner stands on immigration reform. He says he wants it done but has barely waded into the policy.
But in a closed meeting with his closest Capitol Hill allies — a group informally known as “Team Boehner” — he’s giving more clues.

On Wednesday, Boehner welcomed Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) into the meeting of his inner circle in his Capitol office suite.

Rubio talked about the Senate Gang of Eight immigration bill, according to sources familiar with the meeting. Boehner didn’t exactly weigh in on the legislation, but the fact that he would welcome Rubio in to talk about the bill shows that the speaker is actively gaming out the issue.

Boehner has told colleagues and staff that he wants to pass some sort of immigration bill through the House before the August recess. The Judiciary Committee is set to mark up some small-bore immigration measures this month.

Republicans have also scheduled a “special GOP conference meeting” for mid-July on immigration.
