Building site melee erupts over illegals/7-15
    Staff Report

WARREN COUNTY — Shots were fired at a Hamilton Twp. construction site in Warren County Friday and the owner of a construction company beaten in retaliation for the firing of an undocumented worker, according to Hamilton Twp. police.

Police responded to a “shots fired” call around 1 p.m., in which the male caller told them “Mexicans were shooting at him.”

Two men were injured, according to police, after the man who earlier had been fired from a construction company allegedly returned with about eight other men — armed with three handguns and several baseball bats.

Hamilton Twp. Police Lt. Jeff Braley said police are looking for a “vehicle of interest” — a white Chevrolet SUV with Ohio license “CDGOMEZ.”

Braley said he believes the suspects have been residing in the city of Hamilton, although investigators say they have not been able to fully identify the suspects.

According to police, the suspects arrived and rammed the construction foreman’s truck with their vehicle, jumped out and damaged the truck with baseball bats, then sought out the foreman and rushed him. At that time they displayed the handguns and fired 10 to 12 shots in the direction of the foreman and another employee, James Parsons Jr., who was coming to the foreman’s aid.

Parsons was struck multiple times with a baseball bat, police said. The suspects re-entered their white SUV and fled the scene, police said.

Parsons was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries. The foreman was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

A construction company supervisor said the incident began when a worker at the 21 Oaks subdivision construction site off U.S. 22/Ohio 3 was asked to produce paperwork to prove he was a legal immigrant. When he failed to produce the paperwork, he was fired.

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones, who has mounted an aggressive campaign to rid the county of illegal immigrants, said he had not received any official information about the incident in Warren County.

Based on media reports, Jones said it appeared the employer was doing what the law required in terms of hiring documented workers.

“However, it doesn’t really matter whether the suspects are legal immigrants or not — it’s against the law to attack another person. That’s a crime that should not be taken lightly,” Jones said. “Legal or not, shame on them for that.”

Police are looking for as many as ten suspects after a fight broke out at a Warren County construction site after an employee was fired and later sought retaliation.

It happened at a worksite for All-Good Construction on SR 22 in Hamilton Township.

The supervisor of the construction company reportedly fired the worker earlier in the day after he said the man had repeatedly not shown up for work.

The employee told the supervisor he'd be back as he left the site.

The supervisor said he eventually did make his way back, only this time with a car full of other men who fired shots and repeatedly swung baseball bats at the him in what onlookers describe as "pure melee."

The supervisor called 911 and hid in a nearby wooded area.

Police have put out several calls for various agencies to be on the lookout for a white Dodge Durango that the suspects might have fled the scene in.

Aside from possible minor injuries to the supervisor who was hit over the head with a bat, no one else is hurt.

Police: Armed Feud Erupts At Construction Site After Supervisor Fires Employee

    LAST UPDATE: 7/15/2006 12:49:16 AM

Police look for as many as ten people wanted for an armed attack at a Warren County construction site.

Hamilton Township Police say a worker named "Max" retaliated against his supervisor after he was fired Friday.

It happened on State Route 223, just north of Route 48.

The group was armed with guns and baseball bats.

Local 12's Joelle Girone spoke with parents whose children were near the attack.

    911 operator: "911 what's your emergency?"

Caller: "I've got Mexicans out here on the job with guns!"

"I've got four kids," said Robyn Kerman, concerned parent. "And to have it happen in my backyard is a little scary for me!"

Joelle Girone: "Police describe the scene here as chaos. The group fired off as many as 10 gunshots with children living just feet away."

"People running in all directions," said Lt. Jeff Braley, Hamilton Township Police. "Shots being fired in different directions."

Hamilton Township Police say an armed feud erupted Friday at a construction site after a supervisor fired an employee for being late.

Police say the Hispanic worker, known as "Max," started a fight and then left. They say he came back one hour later with as many as nine other Hispanic men, armed with baseball bats and guns.

Police say property was damaged. Two people were assaulted. One of them narrowly escaped a bullet to the head by shielding himself with this board.

Police say "Max" was looking for his boss. That supervisor called 911.

Caller: "Oh my God! Oh my God!"

Operator: "Sir, I need to know the address you're at."

Caller: "I have to run away!"

Robyn Kerman's home sits right behind the scene. Kerman says just on her side of the street, 20 children live and play. She calls Friday's violence "unacceptable."

"There are legitimate workers out there," said Kerman. "I want to see the township and county make sure everyone's checking, doing things to make sure our kids are safe."

Safe, in an area feeling the pains of growing.

"You know, Hamilton Township is a great place," said Lt. Braley. "But it's also a growing place, and we're growing at such a rate that it brings new problems."

Police want you to be on the lookout for a white SUV with Ohio license plate CDGomez.

Police say these suspects could be facing felonious assault or possibly attempted murder charges.

Police say William Johnson and James Parsons Junior were the two men that were assaulted.

Johnson had minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Police say Parsons may have a broken arm and an injured back.

Hmmm, let me see if I understand this correctly. You have one guy that was fired for either not showing up to work or not showing paperwork to prove he is legal (different stories in the articles). Next this guy goes and rounds up 9 or so of his buddies and they come to the work site at 1 p.m. seeking vengence. Okay, why do I keep hearing about these hard working illegal immigrants? Several of the stories say the guy wasn't showing up for work and where in the world did he round up 9 buddies at 1 o'clock in the afternoon? Shouldn't they have been working somewhere? After all, these are hard-working people that just want to make a better life for their families. Yeah, right!

9 buddies at 1 o'clock in the afternoon?
He woke them up from their siestas. No wonder they were so mad.
