Charles authorities move against MS-13—

LA PLATA, Md. (AP) -

Authorities in Charles County say they're moving aggressively to stop the M-S-13 gang from spreading to the county.
The sheriff's office has identified more than 240 gang members in the county, but officials say the gangs are local, without national connections.

But they're concerned that the gang is making inroads.

Local state and federal officers recently used three boats to surprise eight suspected gang members at the Rock Point beach.

None of them acknowledged being a member of M-S-13, but investigators say the men's jewelry, body markings and other clues led them to believe they were members. The eight men were charged with trespassing and federal immigration authorities are moving to deport two men suspected of being in the country illegally.
