Man Trying to Keep Track of Number of People Killed in Mexico’s Drug Wars

People are dying in Mexico’s drug wars every day. The most recent government numbers show 34,000 narco killings. That would be like wiping out the city of San Juan. Tracking the number of deaths is difficult.

The exact number is kept only by the government. They hold on to that information tightly. We haven't seen an updated death toll in nearly a year. An international police expert working in Mexico tracks the deaths reported in the media every week. He says Mexico’s death toll has reached a sad milestone. The number goes up everyday, every hour on a bad day. Walter McKay is trying to make sense of the numbers.
