U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Mobile, told a Tea Party gathering in Wetumpka that President Obama's policies on health care and immigration are preventing America from making a full economic recovery.

“The idea that we are going to tax, borrow, spend by the government and that this is going to revive our economy, make our lives better, and help the average American have a more healthy and prosperous life is being proven false," Sessions said during a town hall meeting Friday in Wetumpka.

Sessions said it would be a mistake to grant amnesty to the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants now living in America or to increase the flow of guest workers into the country.

"At a time of slow job growth, we don’t need to be doubling the number of guest workers brought into America," he said. "The last thing your federal government should do at this point in time, when Americans are hurting and we have fewer working since 1978, is to have policies that make it harder for people to get a job.”
