Local sheriffs form illegal immigration, human trafficking task force

SHALIMAR — Allocating jail space for illegal immigrants and attracting a stronger Immigration and Customs Enforcement presence in Northwest Florida are two goals of a newly formed four-county task force.

The sheriffs of Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Walton and Escambia counties have teamed up to take on the contentious issue of illegal immigration.

Three of the sheriffs — Charlie Morris of Okaloosa, Wendell Hall of Santa Rosa and Ralph Johnson of Walton — met at Morris’ administration building in Shalimar on Wednesday to announce the task force.
