Study: Illegal alien population may be as high as 38 million

Study: Illegal alien population may be as high as 38 million

A new report finds the Homeland Security Department "grossly underestimates" the number of illegal aliens living in the U.S.

Homeland Security's Office of Immigration Studies released a report August 31 that estimates the number of illegal aliens residing in the U.S. is between 8 and 12 million. But the group Californians for Population Stabilization, or CAPS, has unveiled a report estimating the illegal population is actually between 20 and 38 million.

Four experts, all of whom contributed to the study prepared by CAPS, discussed their findings at a news conference at the National Press Club in Washington Wednesday. James Walsh, a former associate general counsel of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, said he is "appalled" that the Bush administration, lawyers on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and every Democratic presidential candidate, with the exception of Joe Biden, have no problem with sanctuary cities for illegal aliens.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the sanctuary cities and the people that support them are violating the laws of the United States of America. They're violating 8 USC section 1324 and 1325, which is a felony -- [it's] a felony to aid, support, transport, shield, harbor illegal aliens," Walsh stated.

Walsh said his analysis indicating there are 38 million illegal aliens in the U.S. was calculated using the conservative estimate of three illegal immigrants entering the U.S. for each one apprehended. According to Walsh, "In the United States, immigration is in a state of anarchy -- not chaos, but anarchy."

Anyone who's in the middle of this mess, as in living in LA, has always known the true numbers were at least double what's been speculated.

I have always thought it was much much higher than they like to admit to. This is why it is even more important that we give NO AMNESTY.

Seal the border, enforce current laws and send all illegals home!

But think about it since 9/11 they have been saying an estimated 12 million, HELLLLOOO they have been using that figure for 6 years and they have only just started acting like they are going to eventually get serious about it.

This makes the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act even more irresponsible. The senators supporting the act have no idea how many people would be able to claim amnesty. If that is the case there is no way to prepare a fiscal note or an impact statement. Totally reckless.

Everyone with half a brain knows the 8-12 million figure is way off the mark. We certainly didn't need a study to tell us that. However, it's always nice to hear the truth.

I never bought the number of 8-12 million...because of the repetitive parroting from those in supposed control...just adding numbers in your head State by State would easiely arrive at a larger number

Now we know why our politicians want to bend over backwards to them thats alot of votes. This really is no surprise to anyone. It was reported in South American papers 2 years ago, I read it in a Costa Rica paper is estimated illegals in America at 30 million a few years ago. This is alos alot of people For U.S. taxpayers to be responsible for. We can't afford them!
