An illegal immigrant who told police he sneaked back into the United States after he was deported several years ago has been arrested on a felony drug charge after a monthlong investigation by White Plains police.

Lorenzo Mendoza, 29, of 210 Battle Ave., was picked up outside his home Saturday night by members of the police narcotics unit. He was charged with fouth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, a felony, after cops said he had 5 grams of cocaine.
"The narcotics unit did a good job, and we're happy to take this drug dealer off the street," said Public Safety Commissioner David Chong.
Cops said they began investigating Mendoza after receiving tips that he was involved in the local narcotics trade.
After his arrest, police said, Mendoza told them that he'd been deported to Mexico several years ago and sneaked back into the country through Arizona. Police notified U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, who confirmed that Mendoza had apparently entered the country illegally after he was deported.
Chong said ICE has put a warrant on Mendoza, who will most likely be deported again after the local drug charge against him has been resolved.
