C.B.P. Officers Apprehend Murder Suspect at Tecate Port of Entry

Tecate, Calif. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers apprehended a 37-year-old fugitive with an outstanding felony warrant for Murder at the Tecate port of entry, CBP officials announced today.

On Saturday, April 18, at about 1:30 p.m., Juan Gutierrez entered the port as a passenger in a 1996 Acura, declared he was a U.S. citizen, and presented a California identification card to the primary officer. The primary officer queried Gutierrez in law enforcement databases and was alerted that Gutierrez was a wanted person. Officers escorted the vehicle and occupants to the secondary for a more in-depth investigation.

During the secondary inspection, officers conducted a ten-print query utilizing the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System confirming his identity and that he was wanted for homicide by the San Jose Police Department.

Officers subsequently determined Gutierrez was a citizen of Mexico with no legal documents to enter the United States and placed a hold on him for purposes of initiating removal proceedings at the conclusion of his criminal proceedings.

Gutierrez was processed by CBP, paroled into the country, and was transferred to the custody of the San Diego Sheriff’s Office.
