Obama to Asian-Americans: Push back against 'anti-immigrant' mentality

President Obama told a group of Asian-Americans Wednesday night that he needs their support to help counter an anti-immigrant sentiment that has taken root in the country.
"We've got to push back on any anti-immigrant sentiment," the president said at a gala dinner put sponsored by the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies.
While the president didn't mention Donald Trump by name, he bemoaned the gridlock in Congress and forces around the country that are holding up a major overhaul of the nation's immigration laws — essentially, his Republican opponents.
"It's so difficult to understand why some folks are still standing in the way of comprehensive immigration reform," he said, reminding the audience to elect members of Congress who support a broad overhaul that includes a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants.
Obama also highlighted the accomplishments he's made for the AAPI community, mentioning the judicial and federal judicial appointments he's been able to push through and the creation of a taskforce on new immigrants.
