Scott Aust of the Rapid City Journal offers "Mom proud of teen's moment with Obama" http://tinyurl.com/6mjjzg about seventh-grader Steven Cady who asked Barack Obama about immigration in Rapid City, Iowa yesterday. That article has the heartwarming backstory, with everyone thinking everything was just great. However, to get the actual question we turn to another story also by Aust ("Obama stresses differences between himself and policies of Bush-McCain" ; http://tinyurl.com/5jbwyw

"Doesn't everyone outside of America deserve to come to America and have the freedom that they deserve?" Cady asked to a round of applause and cheers.

Now, if someone asked me that I'd point out that there are billions and billions of people who'd like to come here and for various reasons we can't invite them all. So, we have to have limits. And, I'd point out that allowing people an "out" of coming here could (and does) cause them not to fix the problems at home, and it's best that we avoided that. And, I'd point out that, for instance, allowing massive immigration from one country gives the sending country political power inside the U.S., and that's something we have to avoid.

Needless to say, Obama took a different tack by simply playing back what he's said many times before. After some small talk about Cady's interests:

Obama remarked again about how smart Cady was, and a woman in the crowd, Linda Mallory, stood up and yelled, "I'm his teacher." The crowd roared.

In response to Cady's immigration question, Obama said as a nation of immigrants, America should encourage immigration, but it should be done legally. He advocated for secure borders, better surveillance and sanctions for companies that knowingly recruit and hire undocumented workers.

For the 12 million undocumented workers here already, Obama said his administration would require them to register, pay back taxes and learn English so they can assimilate.

"When we've done those thing,s we give them a pathway to earn citizenship and become part of broader American community," he said.

It isn't that very difficult to find several examples of Obama saying those same things. For just one example, here's an Obama editorial from April:

Second, we must require the 12 million undocumented immigrants who are already here, including more than 300,000 in North Carolina, to step out of the shadows and onto a path that includes the ability to earn citizenship by demonstrating a sound character, a commitment to America, and a strong work ethic... While it's unrealistic to deport them, illegal entry cannot go unpunished. That's why we must require them to pay a fine, learn English, and get to the back of the line for citizenship behind those who came here legally... We are a nation of laws and a nation of immigrants, and we must reconcile those traditions...

I don't expect a seventh-grader to know how to look up Obama's immigration positions and his past statements on the internet, although I'm sure many can. And, if Aust were a real reporter and not just a hack, it would have been him who had asked a question, and it would have pointed out a few of the endless things wrong with Obama's positions on this issue.

More "pathway" to citizenship claptrap, just like the huge amnesty plan we defeated last summer.

Bottom line: Contrary to the wishes of the majority of Americans who oppose amnesty, the ultra-liberal Obama supports mass amnesty for millions of IAs.

Exactly. Not to mention this open borders attitude seems to run just one way......Americans aren't free to just go and leave and be instantly accepted in a country because they "want" to. They don't get the same rights and freedoms of America when they do, and are thrown out if they don't obey the laws. Kind of like our "free trade"......everyone else benefits while we loose.

Why is always the USA's job to save the world! Why can't we fix our citizens problems! We give more than any other nation it's bout time the rest of the world chips in and helps us get rid of these illegal invaders.

Well, as eloquent as Obama can be, his plan has two MAJOR holes.

First, how can illegal immigrants be considered "at the back of the line" if they're here? Does he consider it fair, that those who cheated can stay here now while those that filed for citizenship legally have to wait outside the U.S.? It's completely backwards!

Second, the English mandate is virtually impossible to satisfy. The majority of illegal immigrants have little command of reading or writing in THEIR OWN LANGUAGE, much less in English. Is it realistic to think they'll be able to gain enough proficiency in English to take the constitution test (one requirement) in English? We don't even test our own students until the 7th or 8th grade (which is, coincidentally, one or two more years of education that many immigrants ever received in their own language).

Third, how can such a measly fine be considered reparations when they can simply adjust by using more social services in the interim. Isn't it likely in order to save thousands for a fine that they'll use EVERY social service available to help save money for the payment? The result is, basically, having U.S. taxpayers flip the bill!

Nice try Mr. Obama, but some Americans are actually educated enough to see through your ruse.

And, I'd point out that, for instance, allowing massive immigration from one country gives the sending country political power inside the U.S., and that's something we have to avoid.

You mean like when Vicente Fox and Calderon make repeated visits to this country in order to influence political decisions which would favor their 20-30 million illegal invaders living in this country. You mean like having a mexican consulate in virtually every state in this country, not including their mobile consulates that offer curb service to their illegal invader brethren.

Or maybe it's politicians who were elected by American citizens, who once elected, promote an ethno-centric agenda, which often is detrimental to the country as a whole

Where the hell has Obama been for the past 20 years??? He's a little late to the tea party. I realize he's only 48, but surely he cannot be so blind as to be completely oblivious to what's going on here. This invasion has been manifesting itself since 86 when Reagan gave mass amnesty and didn't secure our borders. Every since, illegals have been pouring across our southern borders in an effort to cash in on the next amnesty lottery.

Well, here we are some 20 years later and they are DEMANDING their amnesty and it would have happened, but for the fact this country still has Americans who will not stand by and see this country destroyed.

This train has already left the station Obama! Wake up before the chickens come home to roost!!
