President Obama vowed on Thursday to immediately begin negotiations to craft comprehensive immigration reform, with the goal of passing legislation in Congress later this year or early next year.

In a meeting with Democratic and Republican lawmakers, Obama said all parties at the table were far from reaching consensus on an immigration overhaul, but he said they were in agreement that the current system is “broken and needs fixing.â€

Rahm says no reform is on the horizon. Gutierrez says no reform is coming soon and now we have several other sources quoted in the article who dispute that amnesty is coming any time in the near future.

Those are the people whom I choose to believe at this point, especially Gutierrez who, had he any inkling at all that this was in the bag, would've been doing his "In your face gringos" happy dance all over DC.

obama is thoroughly disinterested and giving the special interests lip service. He's too busy in his quest to become king.

With the 2010 elections coming up fast and the current state of affairs in this country, there are too many electeds who are not going to DARE touch this.....either for their own sake or for that of their own party.

And as for La Raza, Reid, and the rest........what credibility do any of them have? None. What they do have is a vested interest in trying to cover their own asses politically or blowing sunshine up the skirts of illegal aliens in hopes of encouraging them to stay and even more to pour across the border because they are nothing without them.

President Barack Obama on Thursday made his biggest push yet to pass comprehensive immigration reform legislation this year.

During a bipartisan, bicameral meeting at the White House with nearly three dozen lawmakers, Obama told immigration stakeholders that he wants to wrap up the issue by the end of this year, or by early 2010 at the latest.

“There is not by any means consensus across the table,â€
