Border patrol agents prohibit access to Friendship Park

Demonstrators locked arms yesterday when they encountered Border Patrol agents who blocked access to the plaza known as Friendship Park. (Eduardo Contreras / Union-Tribune) - SOUTH COUNTY — In the end, immigration activists never made it to the site of yesterday's planned demonstration, a plaza dubbed Friendship Park that sits on a bluff overlooking the ocean at Border Field State Park.

For the first time, Border Patrol agents formally sealed off access on the U.S. side to the plaza, for years a popular meeting place on the U.S.-Mexico border for families to visit through the fence.

The Department of Homeland Security announced late last year that it will prohibit all public access to the park where a secondary wall is under construction. Since then, the plaza has become a symbolic touchstone for those who debate border enforcement policies.

Until recently, federal officials had planned to have a gate in the secondary fence that would have allowed people on either side to visit.

[b]Opponents of illegal immigration tried to disrupt it with a siren-blasting bullhorn and shouted slogans such as, “Go home, illegals!â€

Personally, I do not advocate violence, however, I do think the day will come, if policy stays as is, that Americans will start (mod-edit)on the street because our government won't enforce our laws and protect us from the invaders.

I hope you're wrong but I'm afraid you're right. Almost everyone I know is really upset about illegal aliens in this nation.

Looks to me like someone could shimmy up those poles pretty easy,,,

How dare these protesters criticize the way this country plans to decorate its border? We need those fences to grow rare vines to beautify this country. So stuff it!

Say they are endangered vines and we get the environmentalist on our side, and say they are wine grape vines and we get the winos on our side too.

That must be the fence they are replacing.

Nice place to pass dope and cash for dope. Heroin goes for 3 thousand an once so think about how much money you can fit in the palm of your hand and pass through that fence.
