The Arizona WANTED Task Force, led by the U.S. Marshals, arrested a man Wednesday afternoon who was wanted in Texas for murder after he was deported from Mexico to the United States.
Jose Luis Covarrubias, a 21-year-old U.S. citizen, was arrested by Procuraduria General de Justicia del Estado in Mexicali.
The District of Arizona Mexican Investigative Liaison (MIL) assisted in the apprehension of Covarrubias. He was removed from Mexico through the U.S. Port of Entry, Calexico, Calif.
The U.S. Marshals took custody of Covarrubias at the Port of Entry and booked him into the Imperial County jail. Covarrubias is currently awaiting extradition back to the District of Texas for criminal proceedings.
U.S. Marshals from Dallas, Texas, developed information that Covarrubias was staying at an address with a relative or associate in Mexicali.
With the information provided, U.S. Marshals personnel in the District of Arizona coordinated the arrest with Procuraduria General de Justicia del Estado.
Collaborative efforts between Procuraduria General de Justicia del Estado and the U.S Marshals Service led to locating Covarrubias at an associate’s residence in Mexicali.
