Ogden woman accused of planning husband's murder in El Salvador deported

An Ogden woman wanted by Salvadoran authorities for allegedly orchestrating the murder of her husband was deported to El Salvador Wednesday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

SALT LAKE CITY — An Ogden woman wanted by Salvadoran authorities for allegedly orchestrating the murder of her husband was deported to El Salvador on Wednesday, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Nuri Liseth Aquino-Torres, 28, was turned over to Salvadoran authorities at the El Salvador International Airport. She is the subject a fugitive arrest warrant issued in January by a Salvadoran court, according to ICE.

Aquino-Torres is accused of planning the February 2013 murder of her then estranged husband, 53-year-old Michael James Brown, court documents state.

Brown was a U.S. Army veteran from Three Oaks, Michigan, who built a school in a remote, hostile part of El Salvador and built infrastructure for special forces camps in Central America during his 28 years on active duty and in the reserves, according to his obituary.

ICE agents found and arrested Aquino-Torres at her Ogden home in March. An immigration judge ordered her deportation in July.

"Foreign fugitives are mistaken if they believe they can hide in the U.S. to escape justice in their home countries," said Thomas Feeley, field officer director for ICE removal operations in Salt Lake City.
