EDMOND, Okla. -- A man who is in this country illegally is accused of sexually assaulting two women with special needs. Gynda Chu with Edmond Police Department says, "He thought he could prey on these women and their voice would not be heard, but he was very wrong."
Chu is talking about 40-year-old Esteban Martinez.
Police say he assaulted two women, who have special needs, while they were working.
In the first case, dating back to June, investigators say he went to an Edmond Goodwill and approached the victim.
The report states, "he stuck his hand up her shirt, touching her breasts, then he put his hand down her pants and penetrated her."
Police say weeks later he assaulted an employee at EARC thrift store.
In that case, the victim told police that Martinez, "put his arms around her waist and pushed his body against hers."
She says he then, "grabbed her butt and said, 'Do you like this?'"
Police say Martinez came by the thrift stores where the two victims worked several times a week.
"It's just amazing that this happened in broad daylight in a place of work. He assaulted these women and he thought he could get away with it," Chu says.
Both women told their bosses immediately after the assaults and were able to identify Martinez by a photo.
Investigators say the victims were very shaken up by the assaults but they were brave enough to tell someone what happened to them; that bravery is what helped officers file the necessary charges.
Martinez is charged with first-degree rape by instrumentation.
We are unsure if he has a previous criminal background.
Police say Martinez is an illegal immigrant and the Immigration and Naturalization Service has placed him on hold.
