OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A real estate investor who says he wants to legalize marijuana and allow illegal immigrants to stay in the country has launched his campaign for the GOP nomination for lieutenant governor.
Bernie Adler said Tuesday he will join state Sen. Todd Lamb and state Rep. John Wright in the Republican primary. Democratic state Sen. Kenneth Corn of Poteau also is seeking the post being vacated by Democratic Lt. Gov. Jari Askins, who is running for governor.
The 78-year-old Adler never has run for public office and acknowledges he's a long shot.
A self-described "outsider," Adler says the legalization and regulation of marijuana would provide an economic boost to the state. He also endorsed a program for illegal immigrants to stay in the country while working to become citizens.
