30 suspected illegal immigrants arrested

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- Thirty people suspected of being illegal immigrants were arrested after immigration officials raided an Omaha manufacturer.

The men from Mexico, Guatemala and El Salvador were rounded up at two Plastrglas Inc. buildings in north Omaha on Tuesday and charged with being in the country illegally, said Tim Counts, a spokesman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Counts said Wednesday that an investigation is under way to determine whether the company knowingly employed illegal immigrants.

It's likely some of the employees had false working papers, he said.

Company officials did not immediately return a phone call Wednesday seeking comment.

Plastrglas manufactures architectural shapes from plaster that is reinforced with glass fibers and distributes them nationally.

Counts said the raid was the first workplace raid in Nebraska this year.

In December 2005, 14 suspected illegal immigrants from Mexico who were working for a Wal-Mart subcontractor were arrested at a distribution center in North Platte.
