Obama immigration speech will not offer timeline for action
Obama immigration speech will not offer timeline for action
By Sam Youngman - 06/30/10 01:36 PM ET
President Barack Obama will talk about the urgency of the need for immigration reform in a major speech on Thursday, but will not give a timeline for action.
White House spokesman Bill Burton told reporters aboard Air Force One that he does not "anticipate a specific timeline" when Obama will address the hot-button issue in an speech from American University.
As skepticism abounds on Capitol Hill about whether Obama can gain any traction on immigration in an election year, Burton was asked why the president was taking it on.
"It’s an issue that’s important right now," Burton said. "It’s important at the border. It’s important for folks who are employing people all over the country. It’s an important issue ... and the president thinks that right now, given the focus on it, it’s important that he makes clear exactly where he stands on it.
"There’s been the Arizona law, there’s been meetings about it, there’s been protests about it," he said. "He thought this was a good time to talk plainly with the American people about his views on immigration."
Obama has made immigration a focal issue this week, meeting at the White House with grassroots reform activists on Monday and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus on Tuesday.
The Obama White House has a history of setting deadlines that, while often missed, spur lawmakers to act with a sense of urgency, White House aides have said in the past.
But on the issues of immigration reform and energy, Obama and his aides have said only they would like to do something this year or as soon as possible. In April he conceded Congress might not have the “appetiteâ€NO AMNESTY

They're afraid SB1070 has brought the true situation along the Mexican border into national public view, of the nation-wide support for the law, and of other states passing similar legislation. They are going to "bring down the federal hammer" (most of it empty words and continued neglect) on all fronts to reinforce the concept that "immigration enforcement is a federal matter" and that localities, states, and dedicated law enforcement offficers are, in reality, helpless in the face of federal indifference because the Feds control the large funding, border patrol policies, and the military.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

I think Obama is going to step in it big time with the American public tomorrow and ALIPAC needs to be ready to knock the ball out of the park.

I think from what we’ve seen from the president and the democratic party in the past we can surmise tomorrows talking points ..
Their path of appeal will be an emotional one because as we are all well aware a factual one wouldn’t stand up to the test …
The presidents talking points may be
1. The contribution immigrants have made to our society
2, many of these people are pillars of our society , deeply engrained in our local communities , etc etc , just wanting to come out of the shadows , they have American children , etc etc…
3 . Total deportation impossible , un-American , we have to do something about them , can’t put it off forever , can’t break up families , etc etc ..
I would suggest to anyone with an AX to grind that you start preparing your response to the presidents speech tonight and have it ready to go shortly after he finishes tomorrow ..
As far as our position goes , the most important point , the one the anti-American crowd can’t run and hide from is the economy … we must pound them without mercy over and over again on the economy …
It’s an impossibility for our nation to absorb 12 million illegal immigrants , which is likely a low estimate
At this moment right now , 15 million Americans are out of work ..
To those of you who may not follow the economy , the double dip is now commencing ….the majority of economic indicators in this nation are now screaming another recession …this after TRILLIONS of dollars of stimulus spending in the hopes of being able to prop up our economy .

When we start pounding the WH remind the Prez. Mexico's unemployment rate is only 5% so there is NO excuse about they cannot find a job at home instead of taking jobs from unemployed USA citizens.
