Thanks Rush Limbaugh, Thanks Glenn Beck, Thanks Sarah Palin, Thanks Tim Pawlenty, Thanks Rick Santorum, Thanks Fred Thompson, Thanks "conservatives", you just gave Nancy Pelosi another YES on her communist health care reform bill with Bill Owens, instead of the guaranteed NO we had with Dede Sozzafava.

Republicans, please do not do this any more. Do not abandon your Republican candidate because of lies, distortions and misrepresentations spewed forth by a disgruntled loser who didn't get the Republican nomination and decided to jump ship to the open borders, free trade treason crowd at the Conservative Party funded by Club for Growth.

Sure. What did Hoffman and his supporters think she was going to do? Support a social conservative funded by Club for Growth and the Susan B Anthony List PAC who lied about her position on health care, cap and trade and taxation on national television for over 10 days straight before the election?

The reason Owens (narrowly) won is because of the fecklessness of the Republican Party leadership, who tried to foist an intolerable candidate onto upstate voters without so much as a party primary.

What was intolerable to you or anyone else about Dede Scozzafava who opposed Pelosi/ObamaCare, who opposed cap and trade, who opposed tax increases and who would vote the party line on amnesty/shamnesty?

Did anyone expect him to do otherwise/? It also illustrates , again, Dede's left leaning positions. I believe that had she been elected she would be the Olympia Snowe of NY.

No, no, no! Hoffman didn't enter the race 2 weeks ago. He entered the race as a Conservative over 2 MONTHS ago on August 7, 2009 after he lost the Republican nomination to Dede Scozzafava. Dede had this election won HANDS DOWN over both the Democrat and Conservative until about 2 weeks ago when Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, Fred Thompson, Rick Santorum and Tim Pawlenty decided to use their national names, press coverage and/or endorsements to spread lies, misrepresentations and distortions about the voting record and positions of Dede Scozzafava to support a Conservative candidate, Doug Hoffman, instead of Dede, the Republican candidate. She was duly and properly selected in accordance with state law for special elections in New York, the same way Bil Owens was selected.

Owens wins of course, after the national hoop-blah from the out of staters, and Obama points to Owens win in his pitch today to reassure Democrats that supporting health care reform will not hurt them in the 2010 races:

No, Hoffman wouldn't have won, because in 2 more weeks, Hoffman would have finally been attacked and exposed for what he really is. No one attacked him, the Republicans went after the Democrat with negative ads. Dede didn't attack either opponent, and the Democrat ads were more positive building up Owens instead of trying to tear down Hoffman.

The RNC made a strategic error in using negative campaigning against Owens instead of positive campaigning for their candidate. Many voters responded to the pollsters based on the lies Hoffman had said about Dede on national television, claiming she supported ObamaCare when she didn't, she supported the party line of tort reform, claiming she supported cap and trade when she opposes cap and trade and stated plainly on her website that she believed cap and trade would destroy our economy, claiming she was a government big spender when she'd voted against big spending in Albany, claiming she voted to increase taxes when she only voted to extend the right of local communities to extend or increase their local sales taxes to balance their budgets, claiming she was a "left-leaning Democrat", calling her a "RINO" .. when she was nothing of the sort.

She needed about 5 more days to organize her campaign to refute Hoffman and his national cronies' false charges and set the record straight, but was out of money to do so. The RNC needed new ads about her actual positions and voting record instead of the ads they prepared and ran only criticizing Owens rather than presenting her views to counter-attack Hoffman's national attacks on her.

I think Hoffman wants to run again next year, so if his sponsors stick with him, we'll see how that goes for him. This was just a special election to fill a vacancy until the normal Congressional election next year. Health care and cap and trade will be moot issues by the time that campaign gets underway, and he'll be seen as the spoiler locally for splitting the Republican vote which he was, and creating division on lies, distortions and misrepresentations, which he did.

Since the Congress will have already voted on both of these matters before those elections, he won't have those issues to campaign on. Republicans are going to lose on health care and I believe we're also going to lose on EFCA as well, but can hopefully still defeat Cap and Trade and Amnesty. All those votes are going to occur before next year's Congressional elections, which leaves Hoffman with nothing to campaign on that people will vote for.

In that election, he's going to be totally exposed without the big names behind him for any reason other than trying to take rights away from women to terminate unwanted pregnancies and picking on gays. That isn't going to fly in the NY-23. He can babble about his Flat Tax, which I oppose, because that's just another more restrictive less favorable version of our existing mandated tax system. Any Republican running in that race should run on the FairTax, not the Flat Tax, and I hope one does. The issue in that election is going to be jobs, jobs and more jobs, and Hoffman is a proven free trade traitor, funded by Club for Growth, and is already all over the map supporting more immigration.

In other words, he's history in my opinion. All people did by supporting him was cost the Republicans a sure seat in the US Congress and another vote against health care reform, cap and trade and amnesty. There is distinct possibility that if Dede had been in the House last night instead of Owens, Cao not wanting to be the spoiler would have voted with the Republicans which would have changed that vote from 220-215 to 218-217 and the Republicans might have been able to pick up 1 or 2 more Blue Dogs who voted for it once it hit 218, because once it hit 218, it didn't matter, and we may have been able to kill the bill.

Republicans can't ever risk not having their candidates in Congress to vote the party line on crucial matters, because they wanted to "send a message" or "make a point". All they did was hand health care reform to the Democrats on a silver platter, and possibly cap and trade and amnesty.

Republicans also can't ever be allowed to lie about their opponents to try to win an election or let jump-ship rat sore loser like Hoffman cost the Republicans a seat in the US Congress they've held since 1870.
