Pa - Judge issues warrant for Mexican immigrant - 6 DWI`S

Judge issues warrant for Mexican immigrant
    11:18 AM EST, February 23, 2009

A Mexican immigrant whose sixth drunken-driving charge outraged Northampton County's top prosecutor now has a warrant out for his arrest.

Guadalupe N. Vasquez, 43, of 218 W. Kleinhans St., Easton, did not show up for a bail hearing this morning in Northampton County Court. Vasquez was notified of the proceeding Thursday, a day after District Attorney John Morganelli announced he wanted to revoke Vasquez's bail and have him deported from the country due to his record.

Vasquez was arrested Aug. 10 after he sideswiped a car at an Easton Wawa. He had a blood-alcohol level of 0.23 percent, nearly three times the legal limit for driving, Morganelli said.

Vasquez has five prior drunken-driving convictions stretching from 1993 to 2007. He was free on $10,000 bail on the latest charge, having posted the $1,000 needed to win release.

Morganelli is seeking to have Vasquez's bail increased. He also wants Immigration and Customs Enforcement to deport Vasquez, who the district attorney said lived in the country illegally for years before he married a U.S. citizen and was issued valid alien registration and Social Security numbers in 2003.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has said it is too early to say whether Vasquez can be deported, but that it plans to work with Morganelli's office.

Vasquez's absence today did not surprise Assistant District Attorney Bill Blake. Vasquez also did not show for his preliminary hearing and was late for his formal arraignment on the charge.

"I suspected this was going to happen," Blake said. "Past history."

Once Vasquez is picked up by sheriff's deputies, he will be brought before the court for the bail hearing.

Hey idiots , give them all bail ...

Whoa....it's not the "dumb people" of PA who let this guy out on bail ...it's the idiot judges ......there should be state and federal laws in place that automatically prohibit/deny "get out on bail" cards for any defendants who are in the country illegally. Period. We, the "people" of PA including myself would be in full support of a measure like that. John Morganelli, Rep. Metcalfe, and dozens of others have been on the forefront in our state fighting illegal immigration. Bucks and Mongtgomery counties recently became the first and only two counties in PA to join ICE's Secure Communities Initiative...
