PA No charges for illegal alien in fatal Evesham NJ accident

No criminal charges in fatal Evesham accident
Posted in News on Tuesday, June 30th, 2009 at 5:42 pm

An illegal immigrant involved in a fatal car accident that killed an Evesham teacher will not be charged with vehicular homicide.

Burlington County Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi announced Tuesday that a grand jury declined to charge Jose Luis Galindo-Sanchez with vehicular homicide for the April 8 crash on Route 70 in Evesham that claimed the life of Amy Voorhees.

The grand jury also declined to indict Galindo-Sanchez on separate charges for hindering apprehension, obstruction of justice and witness tampering.

In a prepared statement Bernardi described it as a “difficult decision but one that obviously reflected a careful and thoughtful evaluation of the evidence and the law.â€

Disgraceful. This murderer will possibly be deported, walk away a free man, then return in a few months.

Would the courts permit you or I to walk without jail time? Is there going to be a civil suit?

This is an absolute shame. Mrs. Voorhees, an innocent teacher with a full life ahead of her, had her life ended much too soon. She had a husband, family, friends, fellow staff members, and students. Think about how this illogical ruling affects all of them! Knowing that their wife/friend/relative/teacher was killled and the man who did it walked off with nothing. The men and women who ruled in favor of Mr. Galindo-Sanchez should be ashamed of themselves. This man carelessly ran a red light and crashed into Mrs. Voorhees’ vehicle, and that’s not “recklessâ€

Addiego, Rudder: Grand jury decision affirms need to change NJ laws

    By Robbie Kenney

Assemblywoman Dawn Marie Addiego and Assemblyman Scott Rudder today vowed to work tirelessly in support of their immigration reform package after a grand jury failed to indict an illegal immigrant and unlicensed driver in the accident that killed a 27-year-old Evesham teacher.

“I am shocked and saddened that the illegal immigrant responsible for this horrible tragedy will not be forced to pay for his blatant scorn of the law and disregard for human life,â€

Democrats propose legislation to allow prosecution of illegal immigrant drivers

    By BCDC

Democratic State Assembly candidates Bill Brown and Debbie Sarcone today unveiled legislation that would increase the penalties faced by individuals who cause a motor vehicle accident when they are in the United States illegally – and to extend the penalties to punish those who allow illegal drivers to operate motor vehicles.

Brown and Sarcone, who are running for seats in the Eighth Legislative District, said the legislation is in response to the tragic motor vehicle accident this past April that took the life of a popular Evesham Township school teacher, and the subsequent inability of law enforcement officials to fully prosecute those charged for their actions.

“My town lost a star in a senseless motor vehicle accident,â€
