PA-State Hs approves plan to verify construction workers
State House approves plan to verify construction workers aren't illegal immigrants

The state House overwhelmingly approved two proposals Tuesday that would require contractors to verify that their employees are legally authorized to work, moving Pennsylvania one step closer to sharpening its anti-illegal immigration regulations.
One bill would require any contractor doing business with the state to use the federal E-Verify system, which checks an employee’s personal information against Social Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security databases. The companion bill would require the use of E-Verify by private construction companies.

Overview
Several states have passed legislation requiring employers to use E-Verify. E-Verify is an employment verification tool managed by the Department of Homeland Security that uses information from the Social Security Administration and United States Citizenship and Immigration Services to determine an applicant's eligibility to work.

Pennsylvania House Approves Two E-Verify Bills
Tuesday, June 8, 2010, 3:03 PM EDT - posted on NumbersUSA
Pennsylvania State Capital
The Pennsylvania House passed two bills earlier today that would require state contractors and construction employers to use E-Verify to check the employment eligibility of all new hires.
The bills were authored by Democratic State Rep. John Galloway who said that an estimated 18,000-35,000 illegal aliens are working construction jobs in the state of Pennsylvania.
Should the bills continue through the legislative process and get signed into law, Pennsylvania would join 13 other states that already have E-Verify mandates on the books.

E-Verify is the single most effective tool now available. If we'd extend its use to welfare offices, we could make a good start on eliminating the illegal alien problem.
