Convicted Felon Sentenced for Re-Entering US

TUCSON, Ariz. - A 24-year-old felon from Nicaragua will spend more than four years in prison after entering the U.S. illegally.

Jose Manual Lopez was apprehended in August 2011 near South Komelik, Ariz., while attempting to illegally re-enter the United States.

During processing, agents ran his fingerprints and learned Lopez was convicted of felony assault in Los Angeles in 2011.

He was convicted of re-entry of a felon. Lopez will be formally removed from the U.S. after serving his 51-month sentence and is banned for life from all legalization processes.

All illegal immigrants apprehended by the Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using IAFIS.
