Panama proposes flying Haitian migrants home after clash

PANAMA CITY (AP) — The government of Panama said Monday it has proposed giving some Haitian migrants flights back to their homeland after frustrations boiled over at the remote camps where they are stuck.

The camps in Panama’s southern Darien province also house some Cuban and African migrants, but about 80% of the 2,000 migrants there are from Haiti.

Public Safety Minister Juan Pino said Monday he offered improved medical services or repatriation flights to the migrants, who want to travel overland to the U.S. border but cannot do so because of coronavirus restrictions.

Over the weekend the migrants protested conditions at the camp, setting afire tents and tossing rocks at Panamanian officials.

Pino said “some (migrant) representatives said yes, but it is one thing for them to say it and another for them to want to do it voluntarily,” adding “nobody can force someone to get on an airplane.”

Many migrants hike up through the jungles of Darien from South America, hoping to travel through Central American and Mexico. Many Haitians were already in South America after taking refuge there following Haiti's 2010 earthquake.

Economic downturns have motivated them to try to reach the United States.

But some Central American countries have imposed border restrictions to halt the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Deport every one of these migrants back home.

These countries do not want them on their soil, they do not want them passing through anymore, and the USA does not want them either!

Go home and solve your own problems! We are not the dumping ground for the world.

    NO VACANCY...CLOSE OUR BORDER DOWN!

Seems like walls are in the future for some of these countries. Good luck walling the darien gap.

Every single global drifter and "lost soul" somehow can be found in Central America. I saw a youtube video where they had a guy from the middle east in Southern Mexico right along the border with Guatemala. Africans, Middle Easterners, Asians. Anyone not from the Americas.

We don't know who is doing the long trek up Central America and into North America(Mexico), but I can assure you not all of them are here to merely steal jobs and lurk undetected.

Most scary of all is the numbers the DHS posts up detailing all the people they encounter along the southern border. Iranians. North Koreans. Russians. Chinese. Basically any nation that the United States has angered in some way, their nationals are here and sneaking in though our soft undefended unguarded unwatched southern border.

Shit just type in google maps and look at the pathetic border wall that is currently in place. Nothing but corrugated iron roof metal. With convenient footholds.

It really is a shame that Trump wont get to cover the southern border with the new wall type in this term. If anything a fully operational and secure wall is the best possible chance to fix immigration once and for all.

    Put the squeeze on.

No more visas issued to these countries. Not one more dime of foreign aid.

Every single illegal gets deported back over the first border they illegally crossed and they pay to send them back.

Shut the border down to people crossing, trade only. Go to blazes! We will not be the dumping ground for the world or these corrupt countries south of our border to dump this on us!
