Then I guess they must be talking about people with visas. But still, any employer should have the right to make sure that non-U.S. citizen's visas are not expired and are up to date. And I'm not sure what they mean by not making similar requests to U.S. citizen workers when their documents expired. How can a U.S. citizen's documents expire? What documents? Once you are a citizen, you are always a citizen. Again, what documents do they mean? Our birth certificates? I never heard of someone's birth certificate expiring.
