Central American migrant families continue to turn themselves in at the US-Mexico border, recent images show.

This past weekend, families could be seen wading across the Rio Grande from Mexico into the United States at the El Paso border. They turned themselves into authorities shortly after crossing into domestic territory.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, more immigrants are expected to head to the border in days to come. Groups from Central America recently made their way to northern Mexico, said DHS.

"Approximately 2,000 aliens have arrived in northern Mexico as part of a 'caravan' seeking to cross the border into Texas. Illegal entry will not be tolerated and we stand ready to prevent it," DHS Secretary Kirstjen M. Nielsen said in a prepared statement
Tuesday. "DHS will take all steps to ensure the safety and security of law enforcement personnel on the frontlines."

Meanwhile, President Trump is still calling for the construction of a wall along the border. In his State of the Union address on Tuesday, Trump again asked for both parties to reach an agreement regarding the barricade, although he didn't repeat his threats to declare a national emergency in an effort to gain federal funding.
