Councils in the Republic were today urged to join an all-island campaign to prevent 25,000 undocumented Irish immigrants in the United States becoming the victim of tough new laws.

SDLP Assembly member PJ Bradley has written to every county and city council manager in the Republic urging them to debate the impact on illegal Irish immigrants of anti-terrorism plans by US President George W Bush.

The South Down MLA said: “Many people have yet to realise the determination of the US Government to introduce stringent anti-terrorism measures.

“There are currently over 50 proposals in the form of Draft Bills up for debate and many of these are being openly supported by Democrats and Republicans alike.

“It will require a significant degree of lobbying to influence the thinking of both Congress and the Senate, but lobby we must.

“I have been in touch with every county and city council manager in the south of Ireland requesting them to table the issue for discussion in their council chambers and to lend their support to our undocumented in America.

“The SDLP has already commenced the process by introducing Notices of Motion for discussion in all 26 councils in the North.â€

Makes me wonder where they set up a warehouse at to give Teddy Kennedy his daily allowance of Irish Whiskey. But there people is Undocumented, send them packing. It doesn't matter who you are or where your from. Respect my country, respect our Laws. Detain, Deport and bill the foreign governments.

I have NEVER heard Irish demand we adopt or accept Gaelic language.

Never heard them whine and moan for freebies.

Shucks, if the invaders from the south would try to fit in as I have seen European immigrants do there may not be the outrage so many Anericans exhibit about the invasion..... well, at least not as STRONG!!!!

Those who have lived among the invaders with their sick culture understand well the threat the invaders from the south pose.

Despite the clamorings of the mentally challanged, not all cultures are created equal.

The invading culture from the south creates the countries/governments that exist down there. Compare them to the USA. If THEY were so great then why is every Juan Diego and Juanita trying to enter the USA and the countries to the south not seeing a horde of invaders trying to invade them?

Because our culture is superior!!!! Creates a more desireable place to dwell. Sadly, the invaders want our money but expect their culture to become dominant.

Ain't gonna work. Let the invaders ascend to the majority and their backwards culture will force this country into 2nd-world status with an even greater income disparity than already exists.

The elite class will do wonderfully while the masses wallow in the mire.

wait - we let packistaniss and hindis and all kinds of other people in including the russians and all former soviet block countries and we cant let a few irish musicians in? whats this country coming to?

Hmmmm....let 100,000 from Europe stay; let 100,000 from Latino Land stay; let 100,000 from Asia stay; let 100,000 from Africa stay; let 100,000 from the Middle East stay...then close the borders; deport the rest; and put a Moratorium on Immigration until our unemployment rate, the actual unemployment rate, is zero and then we'll reassess our needs in about 50 years or two generations from now.

Illegal is illegal, no matter where they're from. We have to be consistent in our arguement or we'll be characterized as racists. Repect for the law must be our motto.
