    March 25, 2017 06:56 PM

The City of Batavia Police Department reports that a man who is accused of cutting a female and trying to take a service weapon from an officer is in the country illegally.

This information comes to us from the City of Batavia Police Department.

They tell us that police responded at about 9:15 p.m. Thursday evening to an address on Wood Street in the city of Batavia for the report of a possible physical domestic incident. When they got to the scene officers found a female victim. They tell us that she had a laceration to her neck. She indicated that the suspect caused this injury with a knife, and was still in the apartment.

Police say they found the suspect, Reynaldo Diaz-Ruiz, and tried to take him into custody, but he allegedly did not comply. They say Diaz-Ruiz is accused of physically resisting arrest, but after a taser was deployed officers managed to take him into custody.

According to police Diaz-Ruiz is accused of trying to take the service weapon of the escorting officer at the Batavia Police Department, where he was taken after the alleged incident. Police say that the officer managed to subdue him until assisting officers got there. Police tell us Diaz-Ruiz was taken to UMMC to be medically evaluated, and then released to the custody to Batavia Police.

Police tell us that an investigation revealed that Diaz-Ruiz is in the country illegally.

Police say Diaz-Ruiz’s arraignment took place in Batavia City Court. He was arraigned on the following charges, according to police:

    • “Assault 1st degree (B Felony)”

    • “Attempted Robbery 3rd degree (E Felony)”

    • “Attempted Escape 2nd degree (E Felony)”

    • “Attempted Grand Larceny 4th degree (A misdemeanor)”

    • “Attempted Menacing a Police Officer (E Felony)”

    • “Attempted Criminal Possession of a Firearm (A misdemeanor)”

    • “Menacing 2nd degree (A misdemeanor)”

    • “Reckless Endangerment 1st degree (D Felony)”

    • “Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree (A misdemeanor)”

    • “Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th degree (A misdemeanor)”

    • “Criminal Mischief”

    • “Resisting Arrest (A misdemeanor)”

    • “Obstruction of Governmental Administration (2 counts)”

Police tell us Diaz-Ruiz was remanded to the Genesee County Jail without bail. In addition, they say that an immigration detainer was lodged against him.

Dollars to donuts some judge will grant him bail and we won't hear from him again until he harms someone else. Of course, he will have another name by then, and the connection will be deliberately ignored. Then the justice system will repeat it's asinine practices.
