An undocumented immigrant living in Mesa was arrested Thursday after police said she used the Social Security number of a Yuma woman and had used different names and Social Security numbers in the past six to 10 years.

Police discovered through an investigation that 49-year-old Maria De La Rosa used the Social Security number of a woman living in Yuma after the Yuma woman tried to receive medical coverage through the state. The woman was told someone in Mesa was using her Social Security number to work and obtain other assistance, police said.

De La Rosa was using the Social Security number not only to work, but to purchase a house and car on credit, according to police records.

A credit report obtained by police revealed De La Rosa had been using the Social Security card since 2002.

Through a search warrant, police were able to search the house De La Rosa bought using the Social Security number. Police found a number of counterfeit Social Security cards and Mexican identification cards.

Police said fraudulent ID cards were being made at the house.

The fake ID cards had pictures of De La Rosa and others on them.

Police discovered numerous bank accounts and pay stubs, revealing that De La Rosa and her husband had used different names and Social Security numbers in the past six to 10 years.

De La Rosa was arrested at her home and booked on charges of fraud and taking the identity of another.
