    President Obama no-show miffs Hispanics

Leaders of a national Hispanic organization are criticizing President Barack Obama for skipping their annual conference for the third consecutive year after he promised as a candidate in 2008 that he would return as president.

Some members of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials also are questioning Obama’s commitment to immigration reform, noting that deportations have increased under his watch — even as the administration intensifies its outreach for Hispanic votes. NALEO, which includes more than 6,000 Latino leaders who represent major blocs of voters in key electoral states, opens its annual conference Thursday in San Antonio.

The rift is noteworthy — and even a little puzzling — because of the administration’s aggressive push for Hispanic support ahead of 2012. Obama’s campaign team is trying to raise historically low rates of Hispanic registration and voter turnout in at least a half-dozen swing states, and one Obama adviser involved in his reelection effort recently told POLITICO, “Hispanics could very well decide this election.â€

    What a bunch

What a bunch of crap. Hispanics are treated excellent in the U S and better than several other ethnic/racial groups I know...

Illegal Immigration is not a hispanic issue. It is a National Sovereignty issue...The same happened with waves of Illegals from other homelands, ethnicities, and cultures in the past. We always gave Amnesty and not only does it NOT work, not only were we promised there would be no more amnesty, but amnesty only encourages more illegal immigration ta boot.

We want a zero tolerence approach now so dont take it so personally as some kind of racial or cultural issue...Its a sovereignty and rule of law issue...

Part of me wishes he'd keep placating them. If they rise up and get angry enough he might issue and amnesty via EO in the dead of night right before the election.

Personally, I don't get the impression he even wants to be POTUS for a second term.

Did they try calling the local country club? I think Obama was busy that day with a golf summit or something.

Where Obama will and won't speak

By Georgia Pabst of the Journal Sentinel

    June 20, 2011 1:44 p.m. |18 Comments

The National Council of La Raza has announced that President Barack Obama will speak at its annual conference in Washington, D. C. that runs from July 23-26.

While La Raza officials said they welcome the president's visit and a chance to hear about the issues facing the country and the Latino community, another national Hispanic organization is criticizing the president for skipping their event.

Politico reports that some members of the National Association of Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) aren't happy that Obama isn't attending their annual conference that starts Thursday in San Antonio.

Some, like U. S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.), say they're frustrated with what they view as the presdient's failure to move on immigration reform.

"In front of a group like NALEO, blaming Republicans for their intransigence on immigration reform and not addressing what the president's own administration is doing to immigrants would not wash," he told Politico. "So it isn't surprising that the president is not showing up."

The White House disputed that. It's sending Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to the NALEO conference.

If Obama spoke in front of every hispanic group that is demanding his presence, he wouldn't have time for golf! Goes to show how selfish these people are.
