A Border Patrol unit working in the western Arizona desert rescued an illegal immigrant girl reported lost by her mother.

The woman called 911 Sunday requesting help in locating her 9-year-old daughter, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say.

The woman told agents she was separated from the girl when she went to search for water, two days after their guide had deserted them.

A Border Patrol Search Trauma and Rescue team located the woman about 17 miles east of Sells with the help of a helicopter unit.

Agents found the girl early Monday about six miles east of where the woman was found.

The girl was in good health, officials said.

Both were transported to the Casa Grande Border Patrol Station for processing. Their names haven’t been released.
