The frightening aspect of this ruling is that you're no longer assured that you will have the right to negotiate your own contract.

If someone wants your property and they will generate more tax revenue than you, the government can force you to sell. Simple as that.

And don't forget, there are other forms of property besides your house or land. There's your car, your savings, just about anything you think you own.

If your local government thinks they can make better use of your belongings "for the public good", this ruling opens the door for them to take it.

I paid 307k for mine. What would be my compensation? 50k? Then you lose hundreds of thousands of dollars and have to go through the process of finding a home all over again. Does home owners even cover this?

If you are lucky, you will get something. They only have to pay what they want FAIR MARKET VALUE, But who determines that? Nope you probably won’t even get a tax break for the lost value of your home. Supreme Court Justices are interpreting the laws the way they want to. Time to start the removal process.

This decision sounds like something you would expect from a court in Mexico.

They're just ahead of the curve by about ten years.

Just wait till we get the "Reconquista" courts going.

Taking my property via ED without my willing consent will cost the grabbers more then money. Elaborating would violate the code of conduct here on ALIPAC, but those who are familiar with the fictional Elric of Melnibone and his battle cry will know of what I speak.

Like Ashcroft v Raich, this is another nail in the coffin of the American Repbublic as we knew it.

They can start with George W Bush's Texas Ranch and turn it into a "colonia" development for poor illegals.

"... a man is said to have a right to his property, he may be equally said to have a property in his rights. Where an excess of power prevails, property of no sort is duly respected. No man is safe in his opinions, his person, his faculties, or his possessions."
    ~ James Madison ~
    Federalist Number 44, 1788 ~
prior to the secession of the southern states
for freedom and preservation of 'property rights' and 'states rights'

"Now what liberty is this when property can be taken without permission."

"The Natural Rights of the colonists are these: first, a right to life; second, to liberty; third to property; together with the right to support and defend them in the best manner they can."
    ~ Samuel Adams ~

"Do not seperate text from historical background. If you do, you will have perverted and subverted the Constitution,
which can only end in a distorted, bastardized form of illegitimate government."

    ~ James Madison ~

"the sword of the law should never fall but on those whose guilt is so apparent as to be pronounced by their friends as well as their foes."
    ~ Thomas Jefferson ~

"A power over a man's subsistence amounts to a power over his will"
    ~ Alexander Hamilton ~

"the moment that idea is admitted into society that property is not as sacred as the Laws of God, and that there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny commence. Property must be sacred or liberty cannot exist"
    ~ John Adams ~
    second President

"The right of distribution over private property is the essence of freedom."
    ~ Merrill Jenkins ~

"No other rights are safe where property is not safe."
"God grants liberty only to those who love it, and are always ready to guard and defend it."

    ~ Daniel Webster ~

"Of all tyrannies a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."
    ~ C.S. Lewis ~

"All laws which are repugnant to the Constitution are null and void" Maybury v. Madison 5 US (2 Cranch) 137, 174, 176 (1803)

the liberals thought it was okay for the federal courts to deny Terri Schiavo of life without due process of the now, but NOW the Supreme Court is sanctioning theft of private property. Paul Revere rides again and the American people will be silent no more!

"The principle of an equality of rights is clear and simple. Every man can understand it, and it is by understanding his rights that he learns his duties; for where the rights of man are equal, every man must, finally, see the necessity of protecting the rights of others, as the most effectual security for his own."

    Great Post Mamie,

We need to remind our elected officials about those who founded our nation.

if Congress won't hold federal judges accountable, then it's up to the American people to hold Congress accountable ... I'll be we'll have better national security and courts of justice if "politicians" became "representatives"
