HOUSTON (KTRK) -- An illegal immigrant wanted on an aggravated rape charge in Louisiana was arrested in Conroe, authorities said.

Napoleon Lopez, 23, is accused of raping a 15-year-old girl in December, according to a release from the U.S. Marshal's Office. He disappeared after the alleged incident, so police in Lafayette recruited the help of the U.S. Marshals Violent Offenders Task Force to find him after an arrest warrant was issued on Friday.

Authorities on the case discovered Lopez was in Conroe, so on Saturday morning, members of the task force in Lafayette contacted the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force in Houston and asked them to follow up on the leads in Conroe.

Authorities with the Houston Fugitive Task Force identified Lopez within hours and arrested him without incident.

After his arrest, authorities determined that Lopez was an illegal immigrant.

"The coordinated effort of all law enforcement to bring dangerous criminals to justice ensures that the streets and neighborhoods of Louisiana are a safer place to raise our children," Henry Whitehorn, the United States Marshal for the Western District of Louisiana, said in the release.
