Public intoxication charge leads to discovery of illegal immigrant

WILKES-BARRE — An illegal immigrant was arrested arly Friday morning on North Main Street early Friday morning.

Police said at approximately 12:24 a.m., Jose Ignacio Cruz, 30, originally from Mexico, was found to be highly intoxicated and unable to care for himself. Cruz was arrested and taken to the police station, at which time police discovered he was not in the country legally.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement was notified and confirmed Cruz was not in the country legally, but did not place a detainer on him, according to police.
